48h game concept development for the Arabic speaking markets!

THIS IS ARABIC GAME JAM

Arabic Game Jam is the name of a 48 h game development event, focusing on making games for the Arabic speaking markets within and outside Sweden. In previous years we gathered teams of hardcore gamers, game development students (local and international) and professional game designers for a weekend of intense computer/web/mobile game development.
In May 2015 we’ll organize the third edition of the Arabic Game Jam.But we do other stuff too.
In March 2015 we export the Arabic Game Jam to Beirut, read more about it here! Right after we will be a part of, and represent Arabic Game Jam, on the Mena Games and Exhibition Conference. So we’re spreading the word and connects Sweden with the Middle East in a new way!Throughout 2014 we also offered evening courses in game development, we’ll invite students/gamers/anyone who’s interested to workshops and lectures by brilliant people from the industry and we’ll visit schools and teen hang-out places to encourage and inspire programmers and game designers to-be.

In the fall of 2014 we had something we call AGJ Developing Weekend, where three of the teams from AGJ2013 and 2014 were selected to participate, this were based on what the jury thought was the ones with the most potential. These teams got help and tips from people in the business both in Sweden and in the Middle East to help develop their game concepts and learn more about pitching and business models.

BACKGROUND

Arabic Game Jam takes its point of departure in Malmö, Sweden. Malmö and southern Sweden is a region with a strong and flourishing games industry, with impressive game research conducted by Malmö University and with The Game Assembly fostering new and talented game developers year after year.Malmö is in some ways also a city of untapped resources, with Swedish residents of international background and networks outside of Sweden, who could provide knowledge and resources to the gaming industry as well as to other stakeholders in the field of digital media that are interested in establishing themselves in new or emerging markets.Through Arabic Game Jam we want to bring the industry and passionate gamers/aspiring game developers together and create possibilities for new types of storytelling through games, social innovation and new job opportunities. We think Malmö could become a center for creating games with culturally appealing content for the MENA region as well as for other markets with a growing gaming culture.
